Samaritan's Purse
In the lead up to Christmas each year, we take part in the amazing scheme that enables those of us who have so much to give a gift to children who have so little. Many of us fill a Christmas-wrapped shoebox with small toys, stationery, toothbrushes, hats and all sorts of other small gifts. They are then collected in early November, and sent for distribution in areas of poverty or political unrest in parts of Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
The Samaritan's Purse Christmas Shoebox Appeal has been running for 21 years, and is a lovely way to bring a smile to a child's face, somewhere else in the world.
"All shoeboxes are given to children in need, with no regard to their background or beliefs. Samaritan's Purse works with local partners in the area to ensure that the gift-filled shoeboxes are delivered with integrity and with respect to the local culture."
